HRRN AND VIRGINIA THOROUGHBRED ASSOCIATION PARTNER TO PRESENT ‘VIRGINIA THOROUGHBRED WEEK’

Week-long celebration begins Tuesday, September 5

LEXINGTON, KY (September 4, 2023) – Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN), the award-winning broadcast organization based in Lexington, KY, announced today they will celebrate the storied history of the Virginia thoroughbred industry with ‘Virginia Thoroughbred Week’ presented by the Virginia Thoroughbred Association.

Beginning Tuesday, September 5, HRRN will highlight the achievements of top Virginia-bred horses on each of the network’s shows throughout the week. Listeners will be treated to replays of memorable wins along with interviews and conversations focused on the history of the Virginia thoroughbred industry. HRRN’s social media pages, email newsletters and website will also offer special content throughout the week.

“Virginia was never the largest producer of thoroughbred foals but historically our breeders turned out quality horses that were successful at the sales and won at the best tracks in the U. S. and around the world,” said Debbie Easter, Executive Director of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association. “Even though we only produce about 100 foals a year now, Virginia-breds continue to excel at the highest level. Already this year we have Smitten Farm bred, Gigante, recent winner of the Gr. 2 Secretariat and Gr. 1 placed Repo Rocks bred by Mrs. Oliver Iselin continuing the legacy of great Virginia-bred runners competing at the highest levels.”

“Virginia has had a tremendous impact on racing for generations,” said HRRN president Mike Penna. “Virginia-bred Secretariat is regarded as the greatest horse in racing history, but when you consider that twelve Virginia-bred horses are members of the Horse Racing Hall of Fame and four Kentucky Derby winners were bred in Virginia, you begin to realize just how important a role the Virginia industry has played in our sport.”

‘Virginia Thoroughbred Week’ concludes Saturday, September 9, with a special Virginia Derby day edition of the network’s popular Equine Forum Show presented by TwinSpires.

HRRN shows can be heard across North America on Sirius 216/XM 204 with live streaming and podcasts made available on the network’s website, www.horseracingradio.net, along with multiple podcast platforms. A full schedule of all HRRN shows and additional affiliate information can also be found on the site.
